The Little Red Cottage

Over the river and through the woods,  over the border,  and over the hills of Southern New Hampshire my mother, sister, and & I went to…

Pickity Place

Since 1786 our quaint little red cottage has graced the hills of southern New Hampshire, seemingly untouched by time. This enchanting cottage was chosen by Elizabeth Orton Jones as the model for her illustrations in Little Red Riding Hood Little Golden Books, 1948.”

An excerpt from their website.

We  had 5-course delectable gourmet luncheon complimented with savory herbs and edible flowers grown and harvested from their very own culinary garden.

I spied groups of women, mothers & daughters, grandmothers & granddaughters all nestled in, having lunch in the little red riding hood house.

I can see why Elizabeth was inspired by this quaint cottage. If I use my imagination, I can see the big bad wolf  peering around this massive tree!

  4. Oh Bonnie, you captured one of my truly most favorite places to visit! I grew up not far from Pickety Place in another small town. However, I didn't visit until I'd moved away and then went back for a vacation many years ago and each year after when I would return to NE. Being there and experiencing the entire setting and wonderful food is something one must experience. It's magical! I have a lovely picture of my daughter and myself sitting on the stonewall near the entrance from years ago and last May my cousins son and wife were married there. Such a quaint gathering with a late afternoon luncheon following the ceremony.
Thank you for sharing this must visit place if ever anyone is visiting the area.
    Blessings,
    Sheila

  15. Bonnie - all your photos are just beautiful! What a wonderful and quaint place to spend an afternoon. I'm imagining there are many of these wonderful places to visit 'round about where you live. Makes me envious. I was so glad to see the pics of you (and my baby sister Sarah) from her trip out East. Sounds like she had a wonderful time and it appears you two enjoyed meeting - - finally! I'm SO glad she made the trip and you two got to spend some time together. Blessings. B :)
