~Historic Concord

This past Mother’s Day my sisters and I took my mom out to lunch in Concord. It was gorgeous out, we couldn’t have asked for a nicer day to spend outdoors!

In this colonial town  you can see  historic homes dotting the landscape on rolling, rambling  fields. It reminds me of one of those beautiful folk art murals.

This is Major John Buttrick’s home

“This was the home of the Colonial officer who led the advance to the North Bridge. With British soldiers firing directly at his men, Major John Buttrick gave the order, “Fire, fellow soldiers, for God’s sake, fire!” It was the first time that Colonists were ordered to fire on the King’s troops, an act of treason.”

Someone had just left a pink rose for him. I think this quote of his was very fitting for the moment. ♥

My last picture of the day is one that I thought was so endearing. We came across an elderly couple in the park near the Old North Bridge,  they were sitting quietly in the shade reading. My sister and I paused and watched them for a moment, then we both let out a sigh. We whispered to each other that they reminded us of our  late grandma & grandpa sitting by the fire at their camp in the Adirondacks many years ago. ♥
