Yesterday I had the most delightful and savory lunch with some friends (Karen, Dottie and Laura) in the quaint little red cottage known as ”Pickity Place.” This historical red Cape was the inspiration (illustrations) for Golden Books “Little Red Riding Hood” by Elizabeth Orton Jones.
The following is quoted from their site :
“Since 1786 our quaint little red cottage has graced the hills of southern New Hampshire, seemingly untouched by time. The enchanting cottage was chosen by Elizabeth Orton Jones as the model for her illustrations in Little Red Riding Hood (Little Golden Books, 1948). Today it is a mecca for gardeners, foodies and anyone looking for inspiration and relaxation.”
Each month their luncheon menu changes, the presentation of each meal is as delicious as it appears. They infuse each of their meals with fresh herbs grown on site.

This massive old tree with it’s twisted branches really does look like it’s straight out of a fairy tale!, I can see why she chose this house. The picture below I had taken in a previous summer shows how big it is.
In the same quaint little town of Mason, NH is “Uncle Sam’s” house, yes there really was an Uncle Sam!
What a perfect way to spend a sunny afternoon!

I have been to pickity place a few times and always enjoy the food (I live about an hour from there). It is nice in the late spring or summer they have wonderful gardens and sell herbs. I have their cookbook you have inspired me to dig it out and try a recipe or two.

Oh my.... this place looks fabulous! Love the quaintness of it... and it truly does look like the perfect fairy tale setting. The menu seems delicious. Might have to put this on my list of places to go!!

ReplyDeleteThis place does look wonderful. I even like the wooden{?} painted Red Riding Hood decoration they have in the barrel full of greenery outside. Do they have a gift shop, also, where they sell things such as that and their cookbooks, etc.? Will have to put this on my list of places to visit. ~Christine

Ah - dear old Pickety! :-) I've been taken here on both my visits to the US (my cousin lives about half an hour's drive away) It truly is a wonderful place of rustic charm and interesting food. I love the layout of the gardens with the herbs growing in amongst all the other flowering plants, rather like an English cottage-garden. Brings back lovely days of last Autumn, walking through the fragrant blooms...... :-) My daughter totally fell in love with the place and is planning a similar planting at her house,here in the UK.
